Radio Free Audio is inspired by two elements, one a visit to see Ai WeiWei’s Straight at the Royal Academy in the summer of 2015 (Straight is an Art installation created by re-straightening steel rebar from the collapsed buildings in the tragic Chinese Sichuan earthquake where 70.000 people lost their lives) and the news story that 94% of music play on the BBC Radio 1 in 2014 was provided by the three major record companies Sony, Universal or Warners. While both are shocking for very different reasons the loss of life in the Sichuan earthquake puts the superficial record and radio business in context by the juxtaposition of industrial sounds with nice melodic piano based melody.
