Train sounds was composed as a result of on-the-fly field recordings taken at Shadwell station and at a level crossing in Hertfordshire. Both the acoustics of the station and the approaching trains were granulated to create new synthesizer sounds, which become increasingly complex, evolving pads, building up harmonically. Over this are the original field recordings and FM synth patches, whose construction had been influenced by the spectral shape of some of the granulated sounds
